Amritsar Diwali
Amritsar’s Diwali is very famous in world. People come from accross the world to see the Amritsar Diwali. Amritsar’s Diwali is celebrated with great pomp and show at the Golden Temple. It is celebrated even after three days of Diwali. It is believed that during the reign of Jahangir, after his release from Gwalior fort Guru Ram Das reached Amritsar on Diwali. People greeted him by illuminating lamps.
Ram Tirath Fair
Ram Tirth is an ancient pilgrimage centre associated with the period of Ramayana which is located about 11 km to the west of Amritsar city on Amritsar Lopoke road.It is said that Sita spent her period of exile at this place in the cottage of Rishi Balmiki. A big fair is held here about a fortnight after Diwali, for a duration of five days.
Basant Panchami at Chheharta Sahib
Basant Panchami at Chheharta Sahib is celebrated on the fifth day of the bright half of the month of Magh or Maghi. The celebrations commence early in the morning and end the next day afternoon. Kite-flying competitions are held on the eve of Basant Panchami.
Langgor Fair
Many couples seek blessings of Lord Hanuman for a male child. When their wishes are complete they come here to this mandir during Navratras and pay their tribute to the Lord for the blessings He had bestowed on them. The couples seeking for the male child tie a thread on the ancient banyan tree in the court yard of the Bara Hanuman temple.
